Women's Fest 2008 – August 9 9:30 am to 7:00 pm Workshops: So You've Decided to Get Married: Strengthening Your Relationship in Preparation for Marriage by Dr. Heather Berberet 10:30-11:50 am WRC Three relationship quizzes locate the strengths of your relationship and help determine if you are in danger of succumbing to the 3 top “hot spots.” Discussion of “hot spots” and how to eliminate them. Tips on how to get through the drama of planning a wedding with as little stress as possible. If you are planning on getting married before November or some day in the future, this workshop is for you.

Diversity Round Table Discussion Panel Moderator Judi Schaim 12:30-2:00 pm WRC Moderated by Judi Schaim. Panelists are Kelli, Teresa Oyos, Valerie Hardie, Erin Burgoon. Panel discussion will focus on the isms that affect our San Diego women's community and how that has prevented/encouraged them to participate in activities in the LGBT community. Specific foci are racism, sexism, sizism, ageism, classism, trans- and bi-phobia.

Marriage Equality 101 by Kristi Shaw, Marriage Project Coordinator of The Center 2:15-3:15 pm Group Room 2 The Marriage Equality 101 Workshop will summarize why marriage equality is a crucial issue that helps ensure freedom for everyone, outline the current Vow to Vote No campaign that is working to defeat the constitutional amendment on the November ballot that aims to exclude lesbian and gay couples from the fundamental freedom to marry, and highlight ways the public can get involved in this historic fight for fairness and equality.
What's My Gender? What's Your Gender? What Is Gender Anyway? by Erin Burgoon 2:15-3:15 pm Group Room 3 Through the use of conversation, experiential learning and expression, we will share, explore and challenge notions of gender. Our objective is to educate about the multiple definitions of gender, gender identity, and gender expression, and to provide space for participants to share their own identities around gender. The workshop is not transgender-specific, but is applicable to any and everyone, as gender is a core part of the way we perceive ourselves and others and the way others perceive us.
Lesbians of the Second Wave – How We Got Where We Are Now 2:15-3:15 pm Auditorium Panelists are Jeri Dilno, Sue Palmer, Nora Nugent, Helen McKenna, Julia Webb and Gloria Johnson. These women activists will discuss their personal experiences of San Diego, especially the San Diego lesbian community of the 60s, 70s & 80s. Will include, but is not limited to, employment, politics, race, music and community relations.
Healing Touch: Energy Medicine of the 21 st Century by Rev. Donna Eubanks 3:30-4:30 pm WRC Background information about “Healing Touch” and energy medicine in general, as well as demonstration of some techniques which participants can “take home” and use to help friends and loved ones.
Shakti Rising's Mind Body and Spirit 101 by Jordan Stanton of Shakti Rising 3:30-4:30 pm Group Room 2 Through this workshop participants will explore the foundations of living a supportive and positive lifestyle, learn to identify areas for improvement and develop the skills to create long lasting change.
Ask a Women's Health OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner 3:30-4:30 pm Group Room 3 This workshop will address current health issues for women of all walks of life including the relevance of pap smears, vaginal and breast self examinations, PMS, menopause, donor insemination, LGBT health issues, STDs, HPV vaccines, HIV/AIDS, cancer prevention, screening and treatment options, thermograms vs. mammograms, holistic medicine, etc. Bring your questions, experiences and concerns.
