Getting started is simple:
1. Fill out our online application.
2. Attend a volunteer orientation. Orientations are normally held the 2nd Saturday and the 4th Tuesday of every month. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you within 3 working days of receiving your application with details on the next available orientation.
3. Because of the sensitive nature of some of our work, The Center requires all volunteers complete a finger-print check before being placed. You will receive the necessary forms at the orientation.
4. Start your good work as a Center volunteer!
The San Diego LGBT Community Center is committed to provding the highest quality service to our community and consituents. While The Center respects the right to privacy of all citizens, we also have a responsibility to make every attempt to provide the safest space possible for our youth, families, children, seniors, disabled and other more vulnerable members of our community. In light of this duty, regular volunteers are required to participate in fingerprint checks, in addition to a brief review of publically available criminal databases. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us create a safe and comfortable space for all.

Workshop and Group Facilitator
The Center's discussion groups are the agency's oldest community service program. For more than 30 years, peer-led groups have provided an opportunity for LGBT community members to come out, increase their awareness of community culture and resources, and increase their social networks in a safe, LGBT affirmative environment. Volunteer facilitators function to help structure and facilitate the once-a-week, one-hour discussion groups. Experience with group facilitation or peer counseling is helpful, but not required.
Event Volunteers
The Center often holds special community and fund raising events that require additional volunteer assistance. Volunteers who might wish to participate in events like the Gala, Nightmare, Annual Women's Night, Hillcrest Youth Center dances and events, Annual Youth Prom and other smaller projects would enjoy this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers help by providing staffing and planning for the event.
