Saturday, October 27th 5:00 - 8:00 pm at The Center (3909 Centre Street)
This is one of our funnest events of the year. Join us for dinner, carnival games, a cake walk, musical chairs, face painting, crafts and of course our costume contest with prizes!
New this year: A comfortable room for parents of infants to relax, show off their costumes and socialize, as well as a cool & spooky space for the big kids (9 years old and up) to hang out and watch a Halloween movie after they eat and play the carnival games.
Prizes will be awarded for: funniest, scariest, cutest, most original & best family.
We encourage the parents to dress up too. The kids love it when the adults are in costume! Come have fun!
The cost is only $5.00 and it includes dinner and all of the carnival games, crafts, movie and activities!
Please bring a dessert for the Cake Walk.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
We need 10 more volunteers to help with this event, from decorating to help run the carnival games.
Please contact Marci ASAP if you want to volunteer at mbair@thecentersd.org This is a great way to give back, meet new people, get involved and have fun!
Over 450 attended our annual BBQ on September 16th! What a great time and what a showing of our LGBT parenting community here in San Diego.
We had face painting by Justa Clown and Karaoke and entertainment by Laura Jane Rocks! The kids wore themselves completely out by climbing the rock wall, jumping and racing through the obstacle course all day. The kids also ran the lemonade stand and had a blast helping to raise additional funds to support Family Matters.
A BIG thank you goes out to our Sponsors for helping make this event a success!
Diversionary Theatre, San Diego LGBT Pride, Dottie's Magic Pockets, Lyric's Daycare, Stockton Insurance & Financial Services, The Rainbow Babies, Lucky Buck's, Gay & Lesbian Times, Farmers Insurance, Stonewall Citizens Patrol, and of course all of our volunteers, especially those from the Hillcrest Youth Center! Please support these businesses and tell them thank you for their support of Family Matters.

Families in the Desert

Over this past weekend we met up with over 400 parents and kids with LGBT families from Arizona, Nevada, Los Angeles, Long Beach and many from San Diego. The great staff of Family Pride Coalition (recently renamed to the Family Equality Council) produced the event in collaboration with several other LGBT parenting groups, including Family Matters. We took over the whole Shilo Hotel with hundreds of kids and parents for a wonderful weekend of play and relaxation in Palm Springs.
Two generous dads of Palm Springs,Tom Bombadier and John Fowler, hosted all of our families to a fabulous dinner on Saturday night with a dj, dancing and a movie under the stars for the kids. Thank you to all of the sponsors and volunteers that made this event so much fun.
You must try and make this event next year! Make it an annual family tradition like we do. Keep your eyes open for the announcement for next year.
